More News On Safee

PETALING JAYA: It looks like national striker Mohd Safee Sali has become a celebrity in Wales, judging by the coverage he has been getting in the local tabloids yesterday.

The EchoSport had the heading “Malaysian Beckham’s City Trial” on its back page while the Western Mail had a two-page spread (pic) of write-ups and pictures about Safee’s trial with Cardiff City.

Club chairman Datuk Chan Tien Ghee said team manager Malky Mackay wasted no time in putting Safee through the mill when he turned up at the English Division Two outfit a few days ago.

“It is a little wet over there but
the boy has had no time to acclimatise. We put him up at a hotel next to the training ground and Safee was put to the test the very next morning,” Tien Ghee said yesterday.

Malaysian tycoon Tan Sri Vincent Tan owns 36.1% of the Welsh club.

Besides the 27-year-old Safee, Cardiff have also agreed to give national skipper Safiq Rahim a tryout next month.

“It is still early days and we have left it to the manager to carry out the trials. We hope everything works out fine,” said Tien Ghee.

Safee is currently attached with Indonesian Super League side Pelita Jaya FC and, if everything goes well, the former Selangor striker will be the first Malaysian to play in England.

Safee’s contract with Pelita Jaya FC ends on Jan 31, 2012.
